Programs and Pricing
How much does dog training cost?
Private lessons: the Basic Obedience Starter lesson is $350, Basic Obedience (four lessons) is $700, and Basic & Advanced Obedience (eight lessons) is $1,050. Board and train: the 1 Week Freedom Board & Train is $1,400, the 2 Week Board & Train is $2,500, and the 2 Week Aggressive Dog Board & Train is $3,100.
Should I choose lessons or board and train?
Lessons suit you if you want to learn alongside your dog, one session at a time. Board and train suits you if you want the training built fast: your dog boards with a pro trainer and trains every day, and off-leash reliability comes from that kind of daily work. Not sure? That is exactly what the free phone consultation is for.
What is in the Basic Obedience package?
Four one-hour private lessons covering come, sit and extended sit, down and extended down, place and extended place, loose-leash heel, and off for minor unwanted behavior like jumping, counter surfing and chewing. The e-collar and a 15-foot leash are included. See Basic Obedience.
What do the advanced lessons cover?
The Basic & Advanced Obedience package is eight private lessons. The first four are basic obedience; the last four are advanced commands such as extended distance obedience, heel, watch, through, front and stand.
What is the Basic Obedience Starter package?
One private lesson that introduces you and your dog to our training, with the e-collar and training leash included. It is a good way to start if you want to see how we work before choosing a package. See the Basic Obedience Starter.
Can you help a reactive or aggressive dog?
Yes. The 2 Week Aggressive Dog Board & Train is built for dogs that react to other dogs, animals or people, with obedience as the foundation and desensitization to the dog's triggers. Human aggression is assessed by a trainer first. Nobody can promise a complete fix for aggression, but we can give you control and help you manage it.
Board and Train
Where does my dog stay during board and train?
Your dog boards with one of our professional trainers for the length of the program and trains every day. You get updates while your dog is with us.
What is the difference between the one-week and two-week programs?
The 1 Week Freedom Board & Train is built around full off-leash recall, place, sit and manners. The 2 Week Board & Train adds down, loose-leash and off-leash walking, and more work around dogs and people. Neither is designed for aggression; see the aggressive dog program for that.
What happens when I pick my dog up?
You get a one-on-one handoff session that covers everything your dog now does and how to handle them: about 1.5 hours for the one-week program, 2 hours for the two-week program, and 2 to 3 hours for the aggressive dog program.
Does my dog need to be crate trained first?
Yes. Dogs need to be potty and crate trained by the time their board and train starts. Our plans and pricing page lists the minimum age for each program.
Is a refresher included after board and train?
Our board and train programs include a lifetime refresher class, as listed on our plans and pricing page. If something slips once your dog is home, call us today.
Puppies
How young can my puppy start?
Our e-collar obedience lessons start at five and a half months.
What if my puppy is too young for the e-collar?
Not a problem. We can train your puppy with the clicker and treat method, which gives a good foundation for obedience later, and we can help you with house training too. Call us and we will tell you what fits your puppy's age.
How We Train
What is an e-collar and how does it work?
An e-collar is a collar with a mild stimulation, controlled by a remote the handler holds. We use it to get your dog's attention, like a tap on the shoulder or a phone set to vibrate, not as punishment. It lets you keep control of your dog at a distance, which is what makes off-leash freedom possible.
Will the e-collar hurt my dog?
No. At the first meeting we put the e-collar on your arm so you can feel how mild the stimulation is. We would never do anything to a dog that we would not do to ourselves.
Will my dog always have to wear the e-collar?
No. Inside the house most dogs are soon listening without it. We do recommend putting it on whenever your dog is outside off leash, the same way you would buckle a seat belt, because it only takes one surprise to lose a dog.
Do you train small dogs?
Yes. This training works for dogs of any size, shape and breed, once they are old enough for the e-collar.
How much time will I need to train each day?
You do not need to set aside a block of time every day. We teach you how to work the training into your normal routine, on walks, at the door and at mealtimes.
Where are the private lessons held?
We set the location with you when you book. We generally prefer not to train inside your house: a dog finds it easy to listen at home, and one that learns to listen in an unfamiliar place, with real distractions, will listen anywhere.
How long does basic obedience take?
Four lessons. Lesson one covers come, sit and extended sit, and off; lesson two is place and extended place; lesson three is the loose-leash heel; and lesson four is down and extended down.
Still have a question about your dog?
Ask us. The phone consultation is free, and if a different program suits your dog better than the one you called about, we will say so.
