Lucie's Story: The Goldendoodle Who Sat Through a Church Service Unnoticed

Most people at the service had no idea a dog was in the room. That is the kind of result her owner wanted.

Where Lucie started

Lucie is a 2 year old Goldendoodle. Her owner's review opens with a question a lot of dog owners ask themselves: "Have you ever thought how nice it would be to have a dog that was trained?"

The goal was a dog Lucie's owner could take out in public and feel sure of. That is a fair thing to want, and it is where Lucie's training started.

The training journey

Lucie worked with Leah, one of our trainers at Off Leash K9 Training of Fort Wayne. Her owner had a lot of questions along the way, and Leah took the time to answer them.

That matters more than it sounds. A trained dog whose owner does not understand the training goes back to old habits. Lucie's owner described Leah as someone with "a great desire to see every dog and dog parent succeed."

What actually changed

  • She heels off leash. Her owner calls her a confident walker who stays beside her without a leash.
  • She follows her other commands. "Flawlessly" is her owner's word.
  • She can go to quiet public places. Lucie attended a church service for a funeral, and most people there did not know a dog was present.

★★★★★

“She transformed Lucie, my 2 year old Goldendoodle, to be a confident walker (heel) beside me off leash and follows other commands flawlessly. Lucie has even attended a church/funeral service while most people had no idea a dog was present. I now feel very confident taking Lucie out to public places because of Leah’s guidance.”

What it changed for her owner

Her owner now feels very confident taking Lucie out to public places. A dog that can lie quietly through a service is a dog that can come along to most of life, and that was the point.

Why Lucie's story matters to us

Nobody claps for a dog that lies still for an hour. But a dog who stays calm in a room full of people, at a hard moment for a family, shows what training is for. We are proud of Lucie and of the work her owner put in with her at Off Leash K9 Training of Fort Wayne.

Before and after

Lucie, a 2 year old Goldendoodle, now heels beside her owner off leash and follows her commands. She sat through a church service without most people knowing a dog was there, and her owner takes her out with confidence.
